2012 Kick-Off with Three New Publications
We are happy to announce that all recent publications have been accepted at the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference, France, 2012. Please have a look at Publications!
Building a large-scale research wireless mesh network around the campus of the Humboldt University in Berlin, Adlershof.

What is HWL?
Humboldt Wireless Lab (HWL) is a wireless self-organizing indoor and outdoor mesh network. It consists of wirelessly communicating mesh routers. The network is developed by the Humboldt University and its partners for research purposes.

What kind of network is the HWL?
HWL is both a mesh and a sensor network. In addition to the data transport each node collects data from attached sensors about its environment. Distributed sensor data can be aggregated and evaluated in a cooperative way.
Research at HWL?
Self-organizing wireless networks are characterized by the fact that they work without any central administration or operator and can adapt itself to the changing environment. Self-organizing networks and information systems as well as concrete applications are evaluated in the HWL testbed.
What is the used technology in HWL?
All mesh nodes are equipped with radios according to the IEEE 802.11 standard. The 2.4 as well as the 5-GHz bands are used for communication. In addition, each device is equipped with a GPS and a variety of other sensors like acceleration sensors. More...

What is the aim for 2012?
For 2012 we are planning to increase the number of deployed mesh nodes from around 100 to 150.
